Commercial Waste Zones

Matt Schell edited this page Oct 31, 2019 · 3 revisions

Commercial Waste Zones do not currently exist but were approved into law by the New York City Council on October 30, 2019.

The Department of Sanitation has proposed a Commercial Waste Zone program that will divide the city into 20 zones, where each zone is comprised of one or more Community-Districts. Each zone will be serviced by up to three franchised commercial waste carters, also known as "private carters." Waste companies will apply to service a zone through competitive solicitation and will have to meet environmental, safety, and labor standards.

Commercial Waste Zones are different from Sanitation-Zones which have existed for many years.
