7. Exporting

On macOS, you can export your chats to preserve their full content even if something happens with them in Tact.

To export a chat, right-click the chat name in the chat list, and select Export. The system asks you for a location to save the exported files. Pick a location on your computer, and click Save.

Exporting may take a while. This is indicated by a small circular indicator in the chat list. When the export is complete, it’s replaced with a magnifying glass. To see the exported chat, click the magnifying glass, or open the folder where you saved the export.

Understanding the exported content

The full content of your chat is exported, including messages, files, and pictures. You can open the index.html file in the export folder to view the content of the chat with your browser.

For a machine-readable version of the chat, see the file JSON/data.js in the exported folder. This file contains the content of your chat in JSON format, which you may process with any tool that can read JSON.
