My vision
I'm committed to developing open source software to help the urban world transition away from proprietary, closed-source planning for closed-capsule automobiles to open-source planning for open movement, open spaces, open communities, and open contributions. Much of my code is bundled as R packages, including:
osmdata
for easy extraction and processing of Open Street Map datadodgr
for highly optimised many-to-many routing, including effects of traffic lights, turning angles, incline, you-name-it.bikedata
for extracting and aggregating historical data on public hire bicycle usage from all systems around the planet which provide it.gtfsrouter
for routing and analysis with GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification) data.geodist
a pure C library for lightning-fast calculation of geodesic distances
... and lots more. See my webpage for details. Sponsorship can help ensure the continued development of this kind of software, which will increase the chance of all cities of the world having access to the kinds of tools otherwise only available to those who can afford it.
What i do
I have a paid job as a software research scientist for rOpenSci, leading the construction of a system for peer-reviewing open-source statistical software. I am also a founding member of the not-even-yet-non-profit venture Active Transport Futures.
What i do with sponsorships
Continue to develop all of the code described above, and lots more, because that's not part of my day job and any little bit helps a lot.
