I have spent my career on solving hard problems in the backend and building distributed platforms that scale.
My current area of focus is programming in Rust 🦀 in the cloud ☁️ across Kubernetes, Cloudflare, the various CSPs, and bare metal. I have spent considerable time on securing the cloud and software supply chain security (SLSA, in-toto, cosign, zero-trust, SPIFFE/SPIRE).
Outside of software I spend my free time with my family and our dogs 🐶, or lifting heavy things.
Hobbies include: Historical non-fiction, nutrition, theology, biology, healthcare tech, and politics.
Rust is less common here in industry currently (especially in the US), but I strongly believe it holds some unique benefits:
- exposing mainstream programmers to aspects of functional programming, type safety and performant memory management
- first-class support for compiling to WASM, unlocking possibilities within full-stack programming I dreamt of decades ago
- compile time guarantees and proof-based correctness that reinforces the capabilities of modern AI & LLMs, accelerating product velocity and agility
My philosophy of technology and work is inspired by the following companies and projects:
- https://oxide.computer -- innovating the data center and rethinking from the ground up what opportunities modern software has in its intersection with hardware
- https://blog.janestreet.com -- high performance trading, written in OCaml, without fear of building their own stack to maximize their leverage
- https://stackable.tech/en/ -- one of the few public examples leveraging Kubernetes in Rust to empower modern data platforms
- https://www.inkandswitch.com -- innovating in the P2P / local-first software movement
