Welcome to the WellDone wiki! More to come, but the app spec to start:

Who we are:

WellDone is a non-profit organization that builds open-source technology tools to make infrastructure more reliable in the developing world. Our flagship product is MoMo, a mobile monitoring tool that connects sensors to the mobile network to measure remotely how much water is running from a pump, power is flowing in a microgrid, etc. For example, water systems in rural Africa (pipes and pumps) open break, and rural water providers do not know when a system breaks or where; MoMos can identify broken pumps and alert water providers to fix them. All hardware and software designs are open-source and available athZps://github.com/welldone.

We need an app to...

Complement the hardware monitoring device by facilitating configuration, programming, and debugging in the field or providing a mobile data visualization and notification interface to local stakeholders.

App Audience:

  • Infrastructure local stakeholders – ie. the water engineer responsible for maintaining water points across an entire district
  • Infrastructure regional/global stakeholders – ie. officials responsible for planningprojects and service across large regions or investors interested in the long-term metrics

App Main Functions (in order of priority):

  1. Send notifications of changes in functionality to local water engineers
  2. Provide a simple interface to view functionality and metrics across a selection of sensors, including an interface for comparing different sensor feeds and configuring alert thresholds.
  3. Provide a native mobile implementation of the existing web-based backend sobware, including local data caching for disconnected field work.

Why this app will make a meaningful impact for us:

This app will help provide a low-barrier-to-entry mobile interface to make MoMo’s hardware monitoring platform more accessible for both device water technicians and key non-technical users/staff.
