The advent of the Internet and the World Wide Web, and, more recently, the emergence of cloud computing and streaming data applications, has forced a renewal of interest in distributed and parallel data management. This course covers the breadth and depth of this re-emerging field. The objective is to introduce fundamental principles of distributed data management and emerging systems (such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.), to equip the students with required skills of distributed data processing techniques, and thus make our student more competitive in the age of Big Data.
This course also requires the students to read recent literature on distributed data management and develop a distributed database system as course project.
