@dhomeier - just FYI, most other FRs listed specific roadmap items instead of broad roadmap categories, and that's more what we intended here. So you might want to be more specific (not a requirement, it just might up the odds of this getting accepted)

And to be clear, the funds requested would be in addition to your current contract, correct? Please be explicit in the text.

Thanks for the comments; I had noted the specific items in other FRs but but left them until the scope of this one had been finalised.

Regarding the funds I confess I had become confused by the fact that the previous requests have now already been extended past the original two years while the new call was for 2026. More specifically, in #397 I had applied for funding until April 2026, the second year of which has been covered by the renewed contract in the ROSES-2024 budget.
Since that current contract runs through December 2026, but I expect its budget to cover my work until April 2026 at the present rate, this FR is both in extension and addition to it, to cover work until the end of the year.
For clarification I have corrected the hours and changed the starting date to 1 April (with technically one month of overlap, to allow for some flexibility). Apologies for any confusion over this!

The Cycle 5 funding request process has been hugely successful! On the downside, that means our funds are severely oversubscribed. Even after the Finance Committee and SPOC have taken into consideration community feedback/voting and alignment with the roadmap, there are still more funding requests than we can afford in 2026.

We would like to stretch the budget as far as possible, and to fund as many activities as possible, while making sure the Project remains volunteer-driven. Hence, we would like to know if this project will still meet its deliverables if minimum your budget is reduced by 25%, 50%, or 100%. Or if there’s some other minimum, feel free to specify that instead.

As a reminder, there will be more funding for 2027 and we expect the Cycle 6 call for 2027 funding requests to begin in the Fall of 2026.

Thank you for your engagement and understanding as we continue to optimize our funding and budgeting processes and the balance of volunteer vs funded work! (@dhomeier )
