User Manual
Note: The intention is for this page to eventually become a user manual to be distributed with the game. For now it exists as a Wiki page to make collaboration easier.
Welcome to OpenAnt, the open source clone of the 1991 game SimAnt, by Maxis. Today is the first day in your new life as part of something bigger than yourself -- an ant colony. You will gather food, wage war against other colonies, and try to survive spider attacks.
You start off controlling the yellow ant in the overworld. You can move around the screen by clicking anywhere on the ground. Rocks and other obstructions may block your path, but your ant is smart enough to find its own path around such things.
The green circles on the ground are food. Try grabbing some by double-clicking on one of them. Double-click some place else on the ground to put it back down.
If you're not busy carrying food, you can double-click on the ground to dig a hole to your nest. Then you can double-click that hole to crawl into the safety of that nest. You'll want to make sure this area is stocked with food. You'll also want to keep it well-defended in case a rival colony attacks.
