Messages disappear when the page is refreshed

It seems only new messages received from a socket show up within the chat. Couldn't existing messages be queried for, so it's possible to show what people are talking about inside a chat room?

This bug / unfinished feature happens across all browsers.

To reproduce the issue, simply refresh the page to rejoin the chat, or join for the first time. You will see a list of people inside the room, but there will be no messages until someone posts a new one.

We initially wanted a past messages DB but this had to be cut due to time. After the festival has finished, this will be implemented
