Unfortunately I don't have a mac so I have no way to debug this. Would appreciate if anyone else vouches that the latest version does/doesn't work. Also, is it possible to download the previous version and then update within the client?

I am on a mac too! And I can vouch that it does indeed show a dialog saying the app is damaged. It does so for Releases 2.16 and 2.15 as well.

For release 2.14, macOs states that the app can't be opened because the developer cannot be verified.
You can get around that by allowing it in Privacy & Security in your settings.

Once installed, version 2.14 of the app does prompt that an update is available, but trying to do so gives this error:

Failed to update
Error: ZIP file not provided: [ { "url": "https://github.com/xgi/houdoku/releases/download/v2.16.0/Houdoku-2.16.0-arm64.dmg", "info": { "url": "Houdoku-2.16.0-arm64.dmg", "sha512": "4T6ylUtz6tiU1m/4/yTn90tqWrWxZ2xS0Wwtz5RJZj9WcOSPuLS1bnaopWhXwqxiE6lddhVzXM9M9+vjCARmbQ==", "size": 149420740 } } ]

The app is usable, however plugins can't be installed so 3rd party sources are not an option.
