Yeah, it's hugely depressing. I think we can find workarounds (e.g. NHGIS) for now, but I have no idea what to expect for future data releases. I would not be surprised to see the ACS gutted or re-worked (according to plans in Project 2025, this may happen).

I'm still getting errors. Do I need to get a new API key or something?

I didn't, still using my old API. Interestingly, some students also had the error this week, but today everyone was able to get geometries again. Could it be a DNS or cache problem? I'm not sure.

That did it. Flushed the cache on one machine and it works. Left it alone in another and had the same error. Flushed it and it's working. For now.
