Recent papers such as "Investigating a Standardised Approach to Setting Audio Description
Dip Values." (PDF)
suggest that it would be useful to identify the loudness (LUFS) of the programme audio during audio description periods, so that the audio gain can be set appropriately.

Consider adding or including loudness metadata within transcripts to facilitate systematic gain control, as well as metadata for capturing the overall range of loudness to facilitate setting the appropriate audio description recording volume levels.
