Does spice scale?

Compared to other web applications that allow VM "desktops", over the same short session length, the client socket see's 30MB of transferred data were as a competitors implementation sent 325.95 kB.

It seems unlikely this is an LXD issue but it needs investigating at some level because it wont scale particularly well.

In my very brief test one machine was windows and the other was ubuntu, I need to try and test the different OS to see if that has any baring.

Measuring LXD output at the node socket the large amount of data is coming from spice / LXD.

Have to look at compression performance trade off's to see real gains here.

One or two approaches;

• Custom build LXD to experiment with the spice parameters (they appear to leave it as the default "auto_glz")
• Compress the data at our node server and experiment with spicehtml5 to see if we can get it working
