Custom exercises non-hold times have no effect

First of all, thank you for the wonderful app. I'm getting into some of the custom exercises, and unfortunately they don't seem to respond as I'd expect to my settings. When I remove any hold patterns in a custom exercise those do indeed go away, but if I set say a 4 (in) - 8 (out), with 0 for the holds, both the in and out are 4 seconds duration. The same is the case for if you do have holds, the holds work as I'd expect, but the in and out always seem to be 4. Any ideas?
