Is it possible to still get Windows 8 support? #3953
-
I was recently asked by a friend to help install and get into LaTeX. Since I found TeXstudio particularly pleasant to use, I recommended it. Upon installation of the most recent version, we got an error along the lines of "d3d12.dll is missing", which is expected, given that the system we were trying to run TeXstudio on was a Windows 8.1 laptop. Judging by Microsoft's DirectX documentation, Windows 8.1 supports DirectX 11.2 at a maximum. I assume that DirectX 12 is a QT requirement, but I wondered if it would still be possible to run TeXstudio on Windows 8.1. I'm well aware that Windows 8.1 is obsolete and was end-of-life'd in early 2023, but the machine in question is old and probably wouldn't handle newer Windows versions. I'm happy with accepting "no" as an answer. |

if you can manage to compile texstudio yourself, it is probably possible to run the latest version of txs on win 8.1. Prebuild txs 2.12.20 which can be downloaded from github is supposed to work on win7. (https://github.com/texstudio-org/texstudio/releases/tag/2.12.20) |

Txs can be compiled with Qt5 which for sure runs on win8.1. You can try to follow steps from our wiki: https://github.com/texstudio-org/texstudio/wiki/Compiling
