Not connecting to spotify, MacOS

When trying to connect to spotify desktop nothing happens. I can play tracks when I click on them in my playlists but it doesn't connect that way either. The same goes for spotify web

Steps to reproduce

1. Go to 'Music time in the sidebar'
2. Click on 'the playback control button'
3. Click on 'Connect button(plus button)'
4. Click on 'either launch spotify desktop or spotify web player'
5. Nothing happens

Expected behavior
A clear and concise description of what you expected to happen.

Connection to spotify device to succeed and being able to see current track etc.

ACTUAL RESULTS

Nothing

I do have Spotify Premium, I tried starting spotify before and after vscode with the same results, I tried reconnecting my spotify account and I also tried refreshing song data
