In Svelte 4 I was able to do

{ #if expression }
    ...
{ :else if expression }
    ...
{ :else }
    ...
{ /if }

{ @html }

I preferred the look of that.

Now in Svelte 5 that's an error, and it's also inconsistent about where spaces are allowed. The following is allowed:

{#if expression }
    ...
{ :else }
    ...
{ /if }

Is there a way to ignore the block_unexpected_character error?

This should just be an issue.
If the syntax worked in v4 it probably should also just work in v5.

We made it more strict on purpose to align the ecosystem and eventually make the parser simpler and a bit faster.

@dummdidumm It's inconsistent though.
Also probably should be migrated automatically if it errors otherwise.
