It's funny how I got (and plan to continue) in this wonderful programming world. I am Cuban, graduated in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Havana, practicing structural Bioinformatics since the 2nd year of my degree. I hated programming, but when the need overcame the feelings, I ended up learning Python by myself. Currently, I am a Ph.D. student in Bioinformatics at the University of Medellín, Colombia. I dedicate almost 13 hours a day to fulfill all project commitments and a large part of my free time to support researchers who contact me due to an error/doubt with the programs I develop.
At the moment, I am focused on the development of programs for the calculation of free energy of binding (gmx_MMPBSA) and molecular docking (AMDock).
Being a Ph.D. student, a modest salary, tuition fees, and long unpaid work periods are not good incentives to develop applications. I fear that as soon as there is no project to support these programs, they will be orphaned. Your contribution will be the fuel that feeds the engine to achieve this ambitious goal: to turn them into important tools for the scientific community.
Currently, my goals are:

  • Efficiently implement parallelization in the computing process
  • To develop gmx_MMPBSA with all existing methods and keep it updated with new ones
  • To develop AMDock 2 for the Virtual Screening process
  • Continue with the development of desktop applications based on PyQt
  • To learn web development using Python and FastAPI to scale applications to server
    A lot more things (I'm curious, so I'm always learning something new)
