when I perform the pip install --egg splunk-sdk step per steps in the read me i get the following:

no such option: --egg

is this older for python2.7 perhaps?

Hi @hiqqs , sorry for the delay in response. Support for --egg has been deprecated from pip since v9.0.0(2016).
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, we will be updating the README to avoid any such confusions.
