Installing ParOpt on MacOS
--------------------------
Prerequisites:
- Assumes you already have python3. If not, you can install it with homebrew (or your preference)
Notes:
- This was done on Mac OS 10.13.6 but should work on most recently updated versions.
- This assumes installation using python3 but it can be done with python2 as well
0) Open a terminal window and go to the home directory.
$ cd ~
1) Download Xcode
2) Install homebrew if needed
- In a terminal window, run
$ ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"
- Open your .bash_profile file under the home directory. At the bottom, add
export PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:$PATH
- Then in the terminal, run
$ source .bash_profile
- Note: from here, know that any time you add something to .bash_profile, you will have to run source .bash_profile afterwards each time
3) Install openmpi
$ brew install open-mpi
4) Install python packages
$ pip3 install numpy
$ pip3 install Cython
$ pip3 install mpi4py
$ pip3 install matplotlib
5) Modify .bash_profile again. Add:
export PYTHONPATH=$PYTHONPATH:"Users/<your username>/git/"
5) Set up the directory and clone ParOpt from GitHub:
$ mkdir git
$ git clone https://github.com/gjkennedy/paropt.git
$ cd paropt
$ cp Makefile.in.info Makefile.in
6) Open Makefile.in. Uncomment the region where it says "For MAC OS X, use the following settings", and comment the similar statement above it about linux.
7) Make it. Run:
$ make
8) Make the interface to python. Run:
$ python3 setup.py install
$ make interface
9) Check that the python link is in place. Open a python terminal outside of the paropt
directory:
$ cd ..
$ python3
$ from paropt import ParOpt
$ <exit> CTRL+D
10) Done! Now try an example:
$ cd paropt/examples/python/
$ python3 toy.py
