Just upgraded the use of Zocial in our app (a colleague of mine submitted that pull request adding Houzz) and noticed IE8 not working any more. This looks to be the case on the demo site as well:

Think this is more likely an issue with the eot files or the way the font family gets defined?

Actually just noticed that the previous version wasn't working properly in IE8 for us either, so it looks like the problem goes back a bit further.

I'm happy to merge a PR but probably won't look into this. I recommend looking at fontforge and see if the generated output is compatible with IE8.
