@skanaar have you heard about the msagl.js library
I think it would create great layouts with nomnoml.
The currently used layouter sometimes has problems with bigger diagrams.
From looking at the examples https://microsoft.github.io/msagljs/renderer-svg/index.html
msagl.js looks quite promising.

As a precondition for using such s custom layouter it would be necessary to expose some functionality / api to be able to set the layouting function.

I would be willing to do a PR if you want.

Basically the layouter would be swapped out. I would love to see the results if you give this a try.
