I have noticed that the upstream Ingress controller (which is used in the ingress module) is currently in maintenance mode.

I would like to inquire about the possibility of adopting and supporting the Kubernetes Gateway API.

Currently, the primary alternative is to continue using the existing Ingress controller. Exploring Gateway API support seems like a proactive step to address this.

Understanding the team's roadmap. Any plans or considerations for integrating the Gateway API would be valuable information for users.

Hi, thank you for raising this and for your thoughtful suggestion.

You're right, the upstream Ingress NGINX controller is currently in maintenance mode, as noted in kubernetes/ingress-nginx#13002. However, this doesn't mean it's abandoned: it continues to receive security patches, dependency updates, and support for new Kubernetes versions.
For now, we consider it a stable and reliable option. That said, we're also evaluating the Kubernetes Gateway API and keeping an eye on upstream developments (including the planned InGate project) to ensure a smooth path forward when the ecosystem evolves.

Following up: https://www.kubernetes.dev/blog/2025/11/12/ingress-nginx-retirement/. Ingress Nginx is going to retire. Are there any plans to replace the Ingress module with something else by the end of the year?
