Remote Client Status

Hi All,
I've seen the SEP for the implementation of a remote client, but didn't find much information on the issue afterwards.
I'm particularly interested on a Remote Client Python API.
I imagined something like:

from salt.client import RemoteClient

client = RemoteClient(url='', user='', pass='')
client.cmd(tgt='*', fun='test.ping')

I've seen a few discussion on this issue (that were mostly concentrated on the CLI usage pattern) here and here. But couldn't find more updates on this issue, this has been around 3-4 years ago.

I wonder if there were any advances and/or design decisions in this subject.
