Set different tools for finger and stylus #1602

Description

Motivation

When using an stylus with no button, it can be inconvenient to switch from the pen to the eraser.

Solution

The best way to help with this issue would be allowing the user to set different tools for when they use their stylus or their finger.
For example, I could have the pen brush set for my stylus input but when I use my finger, it will switch to the eraser. This would allow me to quickly erase with my finger without manually switching to the eraser. Of course, the second stylus input is detected again, it would switch back to the pen brush.
This would also allow EMR or USI styluses that also have a capacitive end on the other side (ex : Noris Digital Mini) to be used like they were real pencils that have an integrated eraser on one end and a normal tip on the other end.
You could also use that feature to quickly select or even highlight items using your finger.

Alternatives

Although not a direct alternative, this feature is present in other programs like Infinite Painter which has a drop-down menu in its settings which alllows you to set on of those actions to take place when using your finger rather than your stylus : "Blend" "Erase" "Eyedropper" "Move canvas", etc..

Saber version

v1.29.0

Device

  • Device: Galaxy Tab S9
  • OS: Android 16

Anything else?

I really really like Saber, it's an amazing cross-platform FOSS project and I one day hope to have the time to work on this feature if it's not done yet. It seems I could give it a try since it looks like the app can already differentiate between stylus and finger inputs.
