#5365 and https://github.com/rust-lang/rustfmt/blob/master/Processes.md#stabilising-an-option provide more details around the requirements for stabilizing a configuration option, and every configuration option should have a respective stabilization tracking issue (e.g. #4991) that is intended to be used for assessing readiness of the associated option.

In short, you can help stabilize an option by assisting in the readiness assessment on the option's stabilization tracking issue.

That can include things like:

• Combing through the backlog for bugs associated to that configuration option (note this often warrants a more thorough investigation than a simple search). If any bugs are found be sure to link them to the tracking issue/post a comment on the tracking issue with a link to the bug. Alternatively, if your findings show that there were bugs or that all bugs were fixed, please post that as well
• Assisting with the resolution/fixing of bugs that exist with the configuration option
• Researching if/how widely used the option is. This could include things like running a search across source control platforms like GitHub and GitLab to find projects with a .rustfmt.toml or rustfmt.toml that have that configuration option (with a non-default value)
• Identifying any unstable options that do not have a stabilization tracking issue, and creating a tracking issue for them

Additionally, feel free to ask if there are any other ways you can assist on the specific tracking issue (though please do not ask questions like "when will this be done" which do not help and needlessly spam everyone that is subscribed to the issue)
