I was trying to have the colors separated so that each data weight was it's own color. I know it wasn't an option originally so I thought that creating a class for the span tag and editing the css to specify the color would do it, but that isn't working. Does anyone have any suggestions?

At the moment, that can't be done. The <span> tags are simply the source for the cloud, which is rendered on a <canvas> element - the original word list is hidden.
I will look into this - it seems simply allowing the ability to pass a closure or function reference to the colouring function would be enough to let this work.
