All, I wrote the quickmapr package quite some time ago to facilitate interactive mapping in R using base graphics. It is sort of a throwback to Arcedit, if anyone on here remembers that! I wrote this long before sf and terra and before many of the javascript based slippymap tools had been ported to R. From what I can tell it does not have a huge user based (e.g. ~10 downloads a day) so I am honestly considering archiving the package.

I thought I would at least throw the question out there to see if anyone is interested in taking over maintenance. The only pressing task is converting to sf and terra and dropping rgdal, rgeos, etc.

I'll let this issue ride for a few weeks. At that point I will probably move forward with archiving.

Thanks!

There are no listed reverse dependency packages on CRAN, the affected functions are listed on line 272 of https://github.com/r-spatial/evolution/blob/main/pkgapi_by_pkg_230613.csv, so not imposssible to carry out. @jhollist do you have other channels to reach out to package users? If not, maybe a quick release adding a startup message asking for a new maintainer?

@rsbivand I have a few other avenues, but so far no takers. I like the idea of adding the startup message. I'll get that out this week and see if it results in any takers!

Thanks for the suggestion!
