FontAwesome Compilation Errors?

This was all working fine for the past year but something seems to have changed and I can't figure out what.

I now get these error messages when trying to run xelatex. I've tried updating and downgrading things and nothing seems to work. I'm using this on a mac with VS Code.

Any ideas?

I should add that I started from the Overleaf example so I already have the fonts/ folder (and therefore I'm not even sure why it's trying to recreate the fonts).
