Positron Assistant: Assistant doesn't know filepaths

Positron Assistant often fails as it will invent a path from another user's computer when trying to edit a file. This can only be fixed by actually specifying the path to the file in the prompt.

Thank you for this report, @henrydehe! To clarify, are you saying that Positron Assistant entirely hallucinated a whole file path? Or was it more a style of error as described in #8645?

Hi @juliasilge! Thanks for looking into this. I can confirm that Positron Assistant entirely hallucinated the whole file path. I've never heard of robertf.
I'm running R 4.5.1 on Mac OS Sequoia 15.2, with an M4 macbook air.

I'd also add that this is a recurring issue for me. It causes at least half my requests to Claude Sonnet/Opus 4 to fail.

Could you export your logs from Positron Assistant for a chat where you observe this problem? You can do so using the commands that begin Positron Assistant: Export the current chat. If you are able to share the logs with us (maybe attach the file here or an issue is fine as well), that would be super helpful.

Thank you for sharing this! This is unexpected (and not the kind of behavior we typically see) so I opened #8849 for us to track and prioritize the problem.
