how to change font to use ligatures

R code with no ligatures is a bit odd to me as i am accustomed to the symbols.
I have set ligatures to true in and set the font in Settings > text editor > font to FiraCode in settings UI but to no avail.

this is my settings.json

    "editor.fontFamily": "FiraCode, Consolas, 'Courier New', monospace"
}

How could I set the font to one with ligatures?

i'll answer myself: after a bit of tweaking, this is the working config:
