Earlier this year, one of the projects that many of our members enjoyed was creating our own virtual reality game called Infinite Runner. We used A-Frame for its development and later purchased VR goggles to get a more realistic feel of our game. We later took a trip to VR World to see what a more complex version of the game would look like and also to have some fun!
What is/are the project(s) your Club worked on
1. We worked on creating and programming our own Raspberry Pi from scratch. This project allowed those who are new to programming to get a better understanding and experience what coding in Python is like.
2. As mentioned earlier, we also created our own virtual reality game on A-Frame using Javascript. This not only allowed our members to expand their knowledge on Javascript, but also in game development.
3. We also programmed our own photo booth in Python and later showcased at the Club Fair.
What was the most challenging issue that your Club had to deal with
The most challenging issue we have had is recruiting new members as well as maintaining membership at a Community College.
As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to stop doing?
At the moment there's nothing we would like to stop doing with the club.
As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to start doing?
We would like to add a wider variety of different projects that touch on different areas of the Computer Science field. The Computer Science field is vast and having a wider range of projects would allow everyone to find projects that peak their interest and that they would be interested to actively contribute to.
As the Club's leadership, what would be something that you would like to continue doing?
We would like to continue taking field trips in connection with our projects whenever possible. This really brings our projects to life even further and excites our members to see similar projects applied to real life once we've completed them.
Please something that you would like to share with the Open Source Student Network
We found this video linked below pretty interesting, we're excited to see how far Artificial Intelligence technology will go and how it will impact our world in the future.
