I think instead i'll just use the uncompressed version, as it's only 17kb vs. 12kb compressed.

Actually the compressed version was /larger/! but it was because it embedded fonts. I'm only using Helvetica Neue/Helvetica, so I just specified that extra thoroughly with fallbacks to Arial/sans-serif:
