[Integration Help] v10.11 Session commands via API return 204 No Content and do nothing

Hi all, I’m one of the Homepage devs. We're working on adding support for ≥ v10.11 API changes to our widget but running into some issues. GET calls work fine, but playstate/system commands (POST) are no-ops:

• Endpoints tried: POST /Sessions/{sessionId}/Playing/{command} (Pause/Unpause) and POST /Sessions/{sessionId}/System/{command}.
• Auth: Authorization: MediaBrowser Token="***", Client="Homepage", Device="Homepage", DeviceId="<stable-id>", Version="1.0.0". Initially tried with API key but when that didnt work I tried setting up getting a user token with AuthenticateByName. Also tried ncluding controllingUserId when using a user token.
• Response: always 204 No Content, and the client doesn’t pause/unpause.
• Also I noticed /Sessions for the target session shows SupportsMediaControl: false and SupportedCommands: []
• Version: unstable (Docker). No plugins.

Questions:

• Are these endpoints expected to work? If so, what enables SupportsMediaControl/SupportedCommands so playstate commands take effect?
• If not, which clients/endpoints are currently supported for remote control?
• Is there a recommended flow/setting to allow remote control from external integrations?

No luck via API browser. Feels like this shouldn't be so hard...

Does the session show the play/pause icon in the dashboard? For me only sessions from the web client show those.

If it does, I usually just snoop the request with web dev tools in the browser to figure it out.

So yea, I tried that, I noticed the web client seems to send "unpause" to /Sessions/Playing/Progress (I have no idea which endpoint is the "right" way to do this), but alas, even copying the very exact command from the Jellyfin client as a cURL doesnt work:

To toggle play/pause I think it's this one, but it (no longer?) seems to work on 10.11.5 at least.

So I guess it might be broken, but tbh I have not really use this before as my main client doesn't show the controls.

I remembered https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-mpv-shim also shows up with controls in the dashboard, the above post (with correct sessions of course) does seem to pause/rename playback for me. But not with a web session from Firefox or Safari.

Maybe it's the client side that somehow broken, I guess you could try setting up the mpv-shim to see if it's just the web client ignoring the requests.

Yep, thats the one I assumed would be correct as I noted above 😀

Yea, it very much does seem broken but thought I would ask here before opening a bug report...
