Installing Sunshine on Windows 11 is even easier than on Arch, as you have the choice between a standard installer or a quick command-line tool.
Method 1: The "Winget" Way (Fastest)
Windows 11 has a built-in package manager called winget. This is the closest equivalent to pacman on Windows.
Right-click the Start button and select Terminal (Admin).
Type the following command and press Enter:
PowerShell
winget install LizardByte.Sunshine
Follow any on-screen prompts. It will handle the download and installation automatically.
Method 2: Standard Installer (Visual)
If you prefer a manual download:
Go to the Sunshine Releases page.
Scroll down to Assets and download sunshine-windows-installer.exe.
Run the .exe file.
Note: If you see a "Windows protected your PC" popup, click More info and then Run anyway.
The installer will ask to install ViGEmBus (for controller support). Make sure this is checked and let it install.
Method 3: Post-Installation Setup
Unlike Linux, Windows usually handles the permissions automatically, but you still need to set up your account:
Launch Sunshine: Find "Sunshine" in your Start Menu and open it. A terminal window will pop up—keep this open.
Open the Web UI: Your browser should open automatically to https://localhost:47990.
If it doesn't, manually type that address into your browser.
You will see a "Connection is not private" warning. Click Advanced and then Proceed to localhost (unsafe).
Create Credentials: You will be prompted to create a username and password. This is only for accessing this settings page.
Pairing: Open Moonlight on your client device (phone, TV, or another PC). You should see your Windows PC appear. Click it to get a PIN, then go back to the Sunshine Web UI, click the PIN tab at the top, and enter that code.
Troubleshooting Tip
Firewall: If your client device can't see your PC, Windows Firewall might be blocking it. The installer usually adds these rules, but you may need to ensure the "Sunshine" app is allowed through "Public" or "Private" networks in your Firewall settings.
Would you like me to show you how to set up Virtual Displays so you can stream at resolutions your monitor doesn't support?
