Description of issue

So I note that the avahi formula ( https://formulae.brew.sh/formula/avahi ) seems to only support linux... yet the stats indicate there were OSX installs in the last year?

When I try to install it I get:

% brew install avahi

A project I'm trying to build on OSX has avahi as a dependency. The developer of the project runs a mac, but he uses macports, which does have an avahi portfile.
I had a brief attempt at compiling avahi 0.8 from source, but hit issues with it looking for linux/types.h and gave up. I see macports are applying all sorts of patches, so it looks like it's non-trivial.
