Thanks, I appreciate your comment! We have yet to make extensive side by side testing, I'm aware of AnonKode and analyzing and comparing it to Serena, including porting some functionality is high up on our backlog. We wanted to make Serena available before doing this extensive testing since it's already very useful in is current form. If you want to help, a very useful contribution would be a list of tasks where you saw Serena underperform. For example in form of (link to a repo, the commit at which you started the task, prompt which led to better performance in Claude Code than in Serena). If that's not feasible, some descriptions would also help. |

Btw, since I'm not a pro in typescript, I'm going to heavily use Serena to analyze AnonKode, should be a good start for comparing performance ^^ |

What's in your CLAUDE.md file? Did you have any special initial prompting? Do you have a template that CC follows? |

After extensive testing, I’ve found that Claude Code (CC) significantly outperforms other AI coding tools including Serena—despite the developers claiming that Serena is on par with CC.
I recently tested Serena but the results were disappointing. With each prompt, Serena introduced numerous errors, requiring 1–2 hours of manual debugging just to get an 80% complete result. In contrast, Claude Code delivered 100% accurate output across three significant UI components in just 6 minutes, with only 60 seconds of prompting and no further intervention.
Yes, Claude Code is more expensive in terms of API usage—one task alone cost me $3.92—but the output was flawless. Not a single syntax, logic, or design issue. The time saved and the hands-off experience made the cost worthwhile in my case.
Some users have suggested that Claude Code doesn’t do anything particularly unique. However, after testing multiple platforms side by side, it’s clear to me that CC consistently delivers superior quality, reliability, and polish.
Important Note:
My intention with this post is not to undermine Serena or its potential. In fact, quite the opposite—my goal is to understand what makes Claude Code so remarkably effective, and explore how we might replicate it within the Serena framework.
Since Serena uses Claude Desktop instead of API-based billing, combining its architecture with the performance of CC could reduce costs by 1,000%–1,500%, offering premium results at a fraction of the price.
My hope is to work together with the community to methodically uncover the design, prompts, or architecture behind Claude Code’s success—and replicate it using Claude Desktop. Analyzing Anon Kode, an open-source replica of Claude Code, might be a good place to start.
