As discussed during the SIG meeting Nov 18th we want to try out if we can get a survey established that asks new comers to answer one (or "a few") questions after their PR has been merged.

Assumptions:

  • New comers who worked through the effort of getting their PR merged, are either in one of the following categories (1) one time contributors that want to get that one own issue fixed, (2) paid contributors to continuously contribute to the project, (3) hobby or side-project contributor that want to help here and there in their free time or a small portion of their working hours.
  • After they got their PR merged, they have shown some serious effort that they want to contribute (vs "hi, I want to contribute" on slack or simply raising an issue), so they already went a step further.
  • After they got their PR merged, maintainers were hopefully helpful and they are more inclined to answer such a survey. If the experience was not good, they might also want to let us know about that.

In this survey we can identify to which one of the groups (1) - (3) they belong to and how their contribution experience was, and what feedback they may have for us to improve.

Next Steps:
@svrnm is going to draft a workflow for a post merge survey that gets triggered after a PR got merged and if the contributor is not a member of the github org
@kaylareopelle will draft the message + survey send
