<style> section or element-level styles

I have a string that includes a <style> section with styles that match classes in my HTML elements, but when I run it through HtmlConverter.ParseHtml, the styles are not applied. I saw in one of the demos that styling was always inlined. Is that the only way to have styles applied in the conversion?
