I installed it and ran the commands in the guide. Upon running elegance-colors nothing happened, and when running elegance-colors start I got this error:

$ elegance-colors start
[INFO 16:11:24] Starting process
[ERR 16:11:22] Failed to initialize module

There was no ~/.config/elegance-colors/elegance-colors.ini file when I tried to run update, dunno if there was supposed to be one. I created the file and ran the update, and the file contains several settings now. This still happens:

$ elegance-colors
$ elegance-colors start
[INFO 16:13:42] Starting process
[WARN 16:13:42] 23495 does not seem to be elegance-colors
[INFO 16:13:42] Updating config file
[ERR 16:13:43] Failed to initialize module
$ elegance-colors stop
[WARN 16:14:19] 23720 does not seem to be elegance-colors

Killing the process, restarting the PC, reinstalling elegance-colors and running the command as superuser have not been fruitful thus far.
I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit and nvidia-331 drivers. My other theme settings are set with Unity tweak tool.

I'm having exactly the same problem, also running Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit:

Did you find a solution?

Which version of GNOME are you running? Give the output output of gnome-shell --version.

I also receive:

[INFO 06:44:32] Starting process
[WARN 06:44:32] 16285 does not seem to be elegance-colors
[INFO 06:44:32] Updating config file
[ERR 06:44:32] Failed to initialize module
