Creating child work causes parent work to stop loading

I created a new work by attaching a child to an existing work, and now the parent work is "missing." I get a page error message rather than access to the work.

Update! I can enter the edit view of the parent work by going through the dashboard. I'm going to mark it private so it doesn't show up in the catalog and cause user consternation.
