First of all, I want to express my gratitude for your product, it is impeccable and I admire and use it.
Today I installed a new app, namely external links.
I have a couple of suggestions that, in my opinion, will make it more usable and will expand the possibility of nesting a lot of external links:
If technically possible, you need to make something like a drop-down menu to select the appropriate link there.
If links are 1, 2 ... 10, the current placement of the lines (Header, Setting Menu) will be more convenient. What happens if there are 100 or more links?
I think it would be more convenient to place links in this way, the menu will display the same logo with the inscription extarnal links and all resources will be collected in one me, or you can even arrange them by groups, if the link grouping function is added.
Taking the opportunity, I wanted to ask, the positions of the user quota and public footer, when specifying them, where the links will be placed. I still don't understand how to find the user quota and public footer to see the links =)

Thank you in advance for the allotted time, and forgive my English, if I put it incorrectly

Yours faithfully,
Jamshid Tursunov

Quota is in the bottom of the left sidebar on the files app (index.php/apps/files/) and on the personal setting (index.php/settings/user)

Public footer is e.g. the login page (index.php/login)

I too would very much like to see an option to use one icon with a drop down list of external links. Currently the dashboard gets cluttered fast!

ATM: My solution is to hide the links in User quota and have users access them via the External portal widget on the dashboard. A "not displayed" choice might be nice too where it would not display the links anywhere in the NC interface with the exception of the External portal widget finding and using the links.

@thejvmshid @bcurran3 I think there are two options this could be done in a reasonable way that is already possible:

  1. Set the position to settings menu, it already is a dropdown menu
  2. Use the external portal app from Dashboard like Heimdall / Homer / Organizr  #276

Does this help you?

The external sites app for Nextcloud? It is only OK. It does show the links on the dashboard, which is great, but it's not laid out in a way that can handle more than a few links.

I also run a homepage, so all my links are there... but honestly, I tend to use the links on my nextcloud dashboard more. In fact, I am even considering tagging my bookmarks and just using that instead of a homepage. The reason is obvious during daily use. No matter what, I am logging into Nextcloud to start the day. If I have to also log into my homepage, i get frustrated and just use the links in nextcloud.

I am actually a bit surprised nobody has taken Heimdall, or Dashy, or Homer and made a Nextcloud app for one of those. It could be a massive functionality upgrade to the current dashboard.

IMO the INTUITIVE approach would still be a dropdown menu with a list of links from an app icon at the top of the screen, i.e.
