We've received this question in the past, so we'd like to address it here in Discussions so it's available to the community.
When Open MCT refers to "Telemetry" it's referring to incoming time-series data (historical or realtime/streaming) of varying types. Some examples that are supported by default are basic telemetry, images, and activity plans. Open MCT can also be extended to support other types of data like geospatial data via plugins, there is work being done on adding integration with MMGIS an open-source geospatial tool developed at JPL.
While Open MCT was designed to display telemetry from spacecraft, it could certainly (and has been) used for other purposes.
Some examples of other possible uses:
Really, the limit is only your imagination. Open MCT has many plugins to view data by default (plots, tables, charts, etc), but we also support custom developed plugins, so the possibilities are endless.
If you have a unique use of Open MCT that you'd like to show off, post it in our Show and Tell section of our Discussions. We love to see how Open MCT is being used by the community.
Also, if you have any other cool ideas on what Open MCT could be used for, post them in response to this post!
