Email forwarding #73

I've had to signup for a lot of services and I would prefer to use a namecoin.org email (so they are recoverable if I'm hit by a bus) but I don't want to setup email boxes for everyone, etc.

At first I thought about forwarding to emails included after a +, thus [email protected] would mark the email as read and forward it to [email protected] but that would leave us open to anyone forwarding email through the system.

Ideas?

Also, do we have control of dot-bit.org emails? I could recover some social media account logins if someone would let me do some spelunking

Doesn't the DNS provider provide some forwarder mailboxes we could use? Namecheap is providing my personal e-mail forwarder.

I guess a shared webmail account would be better than nothing.

Only Khal has access to dot-bit.org eMails and he seems to be MIA again.

Being able to forward eMails to several people would certainly be nice.

Yeah, we could do a shared email account with manual forwarding for specific +name addresses.

Surely our DNS provider has something like this, right? At least in the case of namecoin.org aliases for our personal addresses, that's pretty standard I think.

@ryancdotorg can you comment on this?

The mail is via OVH and I think @domob1812 can set up forwards.

Yes, currently we use OVH's servers for MX. I can (manually) set up forwards if someone wants to have one. Since I've recently installed postfix on my (personal) VPS, I could also point namecoin.org's MX records there and set up forwards on that machine. For anything more complicated, I'd ask someone else who knows more about it to set up a mail server on the new Namecoin server or something. Ryan can control the MX records in EasyDNS.

@domob1812 that sounds like a PITA, are you sure there isn't a simpler way to do this?

@indolering As I said, I can "simply" create redirects in OVH's interface - this seems about the simplest you could get, and I'll do it if you have an @namecoin.org address you would like to have. Your "automatic redirect" thing sounds more complicated by itself, so I'm not sure why you mean that it should be "simpler".

Okay, I just wanted to minimize your effort.

If you could setup [email protected] that points to [email protected], I would be very grateful.

@JeremyRand do you want an email as well?

@domob1812 I would like to have [email protected] redirect to [email protected] if it's not too much trouble. Thanks!

@JeremyRand: Done. But I think also @ryancdotorg needs to set some TXT record in EasyDNS. OVH seems to have a complicated system for email redirects.... But it worked in the end with indolering.

I tested this, no joy. I'm pretty sure I have to bug @ryancdotorg.

i added the dns records a few hours ago, is this working now?

As of midnight central time it's still not working. I'll try again in 24 hours.

any luck? the text record is there

@indolering

@ryancdotorg I've been sending emails to [email protected] but I never receive it nor get a bounce notification. It might be a problem with my email setup but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it.

I haven't had any luck either; I just sent another test e-mail a few minutes ago, we'll see if it shows up but I'm not expecting it to.

Maybe the text records have to be added first? I checked again, they are there.

@domob1812

I also just checked, and the redirects seem to be fine at OVH, too: [email protected] to [email protected] and [email protected] to [email protected].

If we can't get this to work, I offer again to set up the redirects on my own VPS. This should only be some lines in a config file I already have there (for virtual mailboxes).

@ryancdotorg

Maybe if you delete and re-add them?

@domob1812

Ok, I've recreated them now in the OVH interface. Maybe this helps, let's see. :)

Maybe try [email protected], I've been having trouble receiving email at [email protected] from random people recently.

I'm still not having any luck. Sending e-mails to [email protected] still doesn't go through, and I don't even get a bounce notification.

Should we try using my server for this? Let me know if I should set up the redirects there. The MX record is mail.domob.eu.

@indolering

@domob1812 that might be best.

@domob1812

I've set up the redirects at my server - @ryancdotorg, please try setting the MX record to mail.domob.eu.

@ryancdotorg Has the MX record been set as @domob1812 suggested?

@ryancdotorg , any update on this?

Still not working. Can I at least get an email for that domain that is working? I need to report Sudo's Facebook and Twitter pages and I need an email address belonging to Namecoin.
