Deploying from master branch doesn't give "rel=me" in author links

I'm trying to add the "rel=me" HTML tag to my Mastodon link in my author links, so as to get verified by Mastodon. I noticed that while the latest release doesn't have that, the master branch does: https://github.com/mmistakes/minimal-mistakes/blob/master/_includes/author-profile.html#L37.

So, I changed my Gemfile to pull from the master branch instead of getting the released gem: https://github.com/jacklund/jacklund.github.io/blob/main/Gemfile#L9. The correct HTML ends up in my vendor directory in the minimal mistakes gem, but when it generates the HTML, either locally or in my Github pages site, it ends up leaving off the "me" rel:
