Description
Project description
The goal of this project is to improve places data in various cities in Canada, using available and approved open data resources.
The project’s focus will be adding new and fixing existing place and boundary related map features using community guidelines for mapping as main instructions.
Data processing and editing in OSM
Mapping will be done using JOSM tool, while using validator, following the wiki, as well as the Learn OSM guidelines.
All the features our team edits will be added manually and will have a source listed in our changeset comments. Additionally, when making any edits, we will be adhering to the Organized editing guidelines.
The team will be adding changeset comments that follow OSM changeset guidelines with the added comment of #MSFTOpenMaps in the comments to help identify edits made to the map by our team.
Data sources and guidelines
Sources used for fixing or adding place-related features will be only those with appropriate, OSM approved licenses in accordance with Contributors - OpenStreetMap Wiki . In cases additional waivers or approvals from LWG, information will be added to the mentioned Wiki page as well as conveyed to Canada related community channels and pages.
Tagging and interpretation of place related data will be done based on Canada admin level - OpenStreetMap Wiki as well as Canada - OpenStreetMap Wiki and related community channels. All the interpretation and possible new mapping will be adjusted to the existing situation on OSM in that specific region or city.
