Developments envisaged in the short term? #4730

Hi @SupersetOdT, thanks for the kind words about Mathesar! I'll share what I can regarding your specific feature requests:
We've recently had several requests for this, and should begin planning a project to address this limitation later this year. I can't yet speak to a specific timeframe though.
You're correct, this isn't currently possible. I recently created an issue to track this (which I know you've already seen, but sharing for posterity #4738).
This is an interesting idea. Do you use any existing ERD tools with Postgres?
Also interesting ideas. @mathemancer might be able to provide some more details here, as I know we've discussed some alternative approaches in the past but my memory is a bit hazy on where our latest thinking was. Thank you for trying Mathesar! I can ping you in the future when we make updates relevant to the features you've requested. |

Hello Zack,
Here is excellent news!
Your project is rapidly evolving. Congratulations!
I will carefully follow the next versions. Happy to learn that the integration of views and relationships between patterns is or will be under study.
Regarding the "entity-relation" diagrams (ERD), this would allow Mathesar to broaden its spectrum of functionalities. It is an important strategic choice.
Mathesar’s "constraints" form is very simple to use but some people like even more to manipulate the relationships between tables/views graphically as in an ERD.
Like ERD, we think of the "design mode" of LibreOffice-Base (open source from Microsoft Access): tables appear in blocks with listed fields, we drag and drop the fields together and define the type of relation.
For more advanced features, the "PgModeler" tool is, to my knowledge, the most advanced open source ERD. Like Mathesar, it only connects to PostgreSQL databases.
Good continuation in your work.
Sincerely,
Hervé.

That we can manipulate postgresql "views" which are very important for me)? In what timeframe?

I can’t link tables through different schemas ? Is it possible?
You're correct, this isn't currently possible. I recently created an issue to track this (which I know you've already seen, but sharing for posterity #4738).
To further facilitate the creation of a query, is it possible to add a visual interface like an Entity-Relationship Diagram
This is an interesting idea. Do you use any existing ERD tools with Postgres?
That the admin can set up the installation of Mathesar metadata in a single postgresql schema instead of the current 3 ("mathesar_types", "msar" and "__msar") and that the name of this schema can be customized?
Also interesting ideas. @mathemancer might be able to provide some more details here, as I know we've discussed some alternative approaches in the past but my memory is a bit hazy on where our latest thinking was.

Very beautiful project this Mathesar! I just installed it at home and handled it for 1-2 hours.
The project interests me to easily explore my progresql DB and quickly produce quite simple 'no-code' queries: group, order by, where... In short, it allows me to do SQL without typing a line of SQL script. The UI is simple, fast, intuitive... Really nice work!
However, the project still seems a bit too young for me to promote it in my professional team (~10 people). But I will follow your later versions.
