List contributors into a single file?

Currently, each file has its own list of contributors; in practice, this is nice if handled well, but error-prone as one can imagine.

A well-established practice, I believe, is to have a single file that lists all contributors of the project. It could be a more sustainable approach.

Any thoughts?
