This seems to be problem of Grails mail plugin - see workaround in issue #36

Eventually, I solved this problem. I checkout your code from GitHub. And then modified code as below.
I realized the problem is caused by Grails 4.0. Please refer to grails/grails-core#11376

Hi @wureka, I believe your solution is more related to issue #91 than this one.
