Account for stock in cart

You can technically fail validation if one of the child items is added with more stock than is remaining once you account for the quantity in the cart.

Example:
6 pack wine
3 red
3 white (4 left in stock)

cart
2 white

this would be attempting to have 5 total white bottles in the cart, which is more than stock.
